Artists Statement
nights & visual haiku
I work with my camera improvisationally. I'm always on the lookout for
light and shape that inspires me.
I feel like a dancer when I shoot photos. I move
in a graceful motion looking into my camera frame until the shapes look
“right” and I click.
This series is called “nights and visual haiku”. I fell in love with
various shapes and textures while out wandering the city.
I am especially fond of neon lights and rain soaked streets in Seattle. I like to capture what is naturally there but in a way
that abstracts it and makes the viewer
notice something new and different about ordinary physical reality.

Bio of the Artist:
Multi Media Artist Shannon Kringen grew up in San Diego California and Whidbey Island Washington. She is a self taught photographer with a background in Graphic Design. She works as a figure model and is designing her BA degree with a concentration on Photography. Shannon also paints onto shoes and creates fully abstract paintings on canvas. She recently begun learning printmaking and plans to combine photography with monotype prints. She sees her creative expression as a tool to connect with community and a way of increasing self awareness and tap into a deeper wisdom within.
